Inspired by Gabrielle 'coco' Chanel

I had the great pleasure of designing and creating this showstopping cake for the ‘Inspired by Gabrielle Coco Chanel’ feature at Cake International at the NEC in Birmingham this year.

The cake was inspired by a Chanel headscarf design that I found and fell in love with - using the iconic black, white and gold colours you think of when you think Chanel! The white and gold camellia design was free hand painted all over the cake using my favorite cocoa butter paint and Fractal Colors lustre dusts. I added trailing golden sugar leaves, again painted with Fractal gold lustre to add movement and interest to the design. The Prop Options gold bar spacer was a lovely addition too adding a bit more height (not that it needed it!) and braking up the bold blocks of colour!

If you are feeling inspired and would like to have a go at some of the techniques used in this cake design you can find a tutorial on how I made it in the lastest online edition of Cake Masters Magazine!

This is a video of the whole feature at Cake International including work inspired by Gabrielle coco Chanel from cake artists from around the world!
